Upington - Augrabies National Park
We start our journey in Upington. After a short drive, we reach the rocky desert landscape at the Augrabies Falls National Park. Here the Orange River plunges almost 200m from its granite platform into the canyon. We do an evening game drive to observe animals like Giraffe, Springbok, Oryx, Eland and Klipspringer.
Day 2-4: Upington - Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Our tour starts in Upington and takes us via to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. On our way, we pass a unique landscape with red dunes and salt pans as well as the typical acacia trees and bushman grass. The desert vegetation offers a perfect environment for an unrivalled diversity of animals, like Springboks, Oryx, more than 280 bird species and many different predators.
We enter the park at the southern entrance gate, Twee Rivieren. This is the point where the Auob and Nossob rivers meet and also forms the main camp of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. We spend the next 4 days with game drives exploring the park’s amazing flora and fauna.
The roads follow the dry river beds of the Auob and the Nossob. The animals have adapted to the arid conditions in this area and we will see Oryx, Springbok, Blue Wildebeest, Ostriches and numerous interesting bird species. This is one of the best areas in Africa to see Cheetahs and the Kalahari Lion hunt and we might be lucky enough to spot these rare predators.
On our last day, we have the final chance to enjoy the living desert on a circle tour through the dunes connecting the two river beds and maybe track some of the impressive predators of the Kgalagadi.
We spend the evening at the Molopo or Kgalagadi Lodge just outside the Kalahari where we can enjoy the local cuisine.
After breakfast, we leave for Upington where our Kalahari Tour ends.
